Color palette
Here are some great suggestions for bringing that zen into your home. What I find as a designer is that people don’t look at the house color scheme as a whole. They seem to get fixated on one or two colors for a particular room. What is important to note is that we don’t just sit in one room, we experience the house and all the colors in them as a whole. To create zen, establishing a harmonius color palette is very important.

creating altars in your home
The altar creates a place in the home for the soul to rest. It is important to create a sacred space or altar somewhere in your house. The altar can be religious, with images of a diety, or it can have sacred objects like meditation beads, or sacred books. For the athiests, you could have just images of a place that has a lot of meaning to you or a picture of an ancestor. With all the materialistic things we possess in our homes, the altar gives us a place to think or contemplate the spiritual self. Incense, candles, flowers or plants on your altar evoke the olfactory senses. The sacred objects on your altar bless the house and you each day. Try it our in your home today, preferably in the north side of your house, to get the morning light and energy.

shaktispaces
Shaktispaces is an architectural design site that focuses on providing healing and holistic spaces to your environment. Our design is organic and seems to come from within. There is a reason why we are moved by architectural sites and certain natural formations. There is an energy and vibration that these places possess, such as the Great Pyramids, Machu Picchu or Grand Canyon. Shaktispaces strives to learn the mysteries of our past to create meaningful designs for the present. Design will outlive us all, and inspire generations to come.

foliage artwork
This series is part of an on-going study of the nature of foliage. The colors of the seasons remind us of the beauty of our changing environment. They affect our psyche as the colors seem to appear in a day and disappear before we have had a chance to absorb the change. The photographs were mainly taken in the past year in California’s Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley and San Francisco with the exception of a Japanese cherry blossom. These photographs have inspired the paintings, which reflect a personal interest in the study of color and form in nature.
